ReFoamIt and KWD Warehouse have teamed up to recycle Styrofoam™. It began when a client hired, our partner, Ron Kollross to process some Styrofoam. The machine that was provided was slow and inefficient. Soon, our client stopped the program and took the machine back. The whole idea of recycling Styrofoam intrigued us. Because of this client, we realized that our country has a problem disposing of Styrofoam. When it is burned, it creates a toxic ash and if it is put in landfills, it never breaks down. Recycling is the only solution.
In August of 2006, KWD officially began processing Styrofoam. We have developed an efficient system that takes loose Styrofoam pieces and using intense pressure, condenses or densifies Styrofoam into blocks. We sell these blocks so they can be processed by another machine that turns these blocks into pellets. These pellets are used to make new products such as picture frames, car bumpers and plastic brackets. When these items break they can be recycled again.
One of our biggest problems is collecting enough Styrofoam to run our the machines daily. At the moment we are processing approximately 50,000 pounds each month and we need more Styrofoam to keep the machines running fulltime. ReFoamIt provides a fee based pickup service to businesses, towns and organizations and collection/recycling events.
Some towns have ongoing recyling programs at their transfer facilities. These programs are listed on ReFoamIt's "Ongoing Events page". We are proud to announce that the Town of Reading is now collecting Styrofoam at their transfer station. See the details on the Ongoing Event page.
Another issue is educating the public and showing them that Styrofoam can be recycled and reused as new product. Laws are changing to eliminate Styrofoam from being burned in incinerators and put into landfills. We have to be ready and have recycling alternatives in place.
In order to provide an avenue for the public to recycle their Styrofoam, we hold collection days. Some collection days have residency restrictions and some are open to anyone. Please see our single event page for upcoming events.
See our single day event page for other upcoming one time events and the ongoing event page to see what towns are keeping Styrofoam out of the landfills ! And please visit our facebook page under Styrofoam Recycling!
We would love to have an opportunity to meet with you and together find a way to recycle all of your Styrofoam! Please email or call us for more information. It helps us to answer your questions if we know what town or group you are talking about.
Please note: Once an event has been scheduled, it will be posted on the event page. If you do NOT see your event listed, please contact ReFoamIt ASAP. No event will be scheduled by just a phone call.
If an event is postponed, due to inclemet weather, ReFoamIt will post the details on this page and on the Single Day Event Page.
